Methods and strategies for successful ERP implementation
Implementing a new ERP system is a Herculean task for many companies. Half of all ERP implementations do not work as planned. However; there are ways and means to ensure that an ERP implementation is successful and runs smoothly. The management consultancy ERA Group outlines what needs to be considered in its white paper: "Increasing efficiency through ERP optimisation: methods; challenges and success strategies". Author Jürgen Rausch; Senior Partner at ERA Group; outlines methods and strategies for the successful implementation and continuous improvement of ERP systems.
Data quality and lack of integration as major obstacles
"ERP systems are the basis for the integration and automation of business processes in modern companies. Optimising them is essential for increasing efficiency; reducing costs and improving competitiveness;" explains Jürgen Rausch. Typical challenges for companies include poor data quality and the integration of different software solutions.
Structured implementation and continuous improvement
Frequently occurring problems include inefficient business processes and high implementation costs. Rausch emphasises: "Structured implementation and continuous optimisation can lead to significant performance improvements. Companies must constantly adapt and improve their ERP systems in order to remain competitive in the long term."
The cost trap of ERP implementation – use of subsidies
ERP projects often exceed the planned budget. This is a problem that can threaten liquidity; especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. The use of subsidies can cushion the costs. "However; claiming subsidies is not that easy. There are numerous subsidy programs that companies can take advantage of; but it is often difficult to identify them and apply for them correctly. Companies should urgently check the availability and requirements of various programs and submit the relevant applications – even with external help;" explains Rausch.
Best practice examples and further information
The best practice examples presented in the white paper show that ERP systems are important in production; trade and services. In these examples; the ERA Group accompanied the companies throughout the entire process; from problem description and solution development to the implementation-oriented implementation of the ERP system.
