In February 2025; Shahid Salim joined the global ERA network as a partner. In his profile text; you can read a brief summary of his time before ERA and the expertise he brings with him. To get to know our new people a little better; we ask each new partner six questions. Read Shahid's spontaneous response:
1. Why this new step in your career?
After more than 25 years of working in various industries and for different multinationals; I felt it was high time to become my own boss. This would allow me to focus fully on entrepreneurship; and this time without the security of a permanent job on the side.
2. Was this what you wanted to be when you were a little boy?
At first; I dreamed of becoming a pilot; then a doctor. However; my life took a different turn. I ended up working in the life sciences; where I have enjoyed working for large pharmaceutical companies in an international setting for the past 20 years. This has allowed me to contribute indirectly to improving our healthcare system.
3. Every career has its ups and downs. What are you proud of? And what would you like to do over?
I look back with pride on the wonderful projects I have worked on both inside and outside my corporate career. I have met inspiring and intelligent people who are making groundbreaking scientific developments possible. Traveling extensively has also given me valuable experiences.
I am also pleased that I managed to obtain an MBA alongside a full-time job; run a Subway branch for three years; and build up a modest property portfolio.
But I am most proud of my wife. Without her support; I would not have been able to realise my ambitions. What's more; she combines her own career with raising our children and has recently started a master's degree.
Looking back; there is honestly little I would have done differently. I am a contented person and look mainly to the future.
4. What kind of (work) challenge would you get up for?
Strategic; complex and; above all; commercially challenging issues. Especially when collaboration is crucial to making it a success. I've always been taught: 'Selling starts with no!'
5. Who is your role model?
I have great respect for entrepreneurs who know how to turn a good idea into a successful business and put the customer first. Coolblue and Suitsupply are inspiring examples for me.
6. What is your ERA dream?
I want to learn a lot about this business in the coming period. My dream is to build strong; lasting relationships with various ERA customers and provide them with tailored support for the challenges they face.
On a personal business level; I hope that in two years' time I will look back on this ERA adventure as one of the best decisions of my life. I want to be able to say with a big smile: this was the moment when everything fell into place!
ERA is delighted that Shahid Salim is joining the network and wishes him every success and enjoyment; in line with his motto: 'Alone you go faster; together you go further'.
