From New York to a New Business in Italy: Why Laura Joined ERA Group

Laura joined ERA Group in 2020, but her path into the role was built on a decade of international experience and a clear decision to reshape her working life. Originally based in New York, she spent almost ten years managing an import-export company, working deeply within transportation and supply chain operations and building a strong foundation in logistics and global trade.

When she decided to return to Italy, she was also looking for a way to bring that experience into a more independent way of working—one where she could continue using her specialist knowledge while having greater ownership over how she worked and who she worked with. ERA Group became that next step, allowing her to focus on transport and logistics as a specialist analyst while operating within a global network.

What stood out to her early on was the international nature of the organisation. Working alongside partners from different countries quickly became part of her everyday experience, and she describes how that exposure not only broadened her professional understanding but also deepened her appreciation of different ways of thinking and working. Being surrounded by people who are both analytical and action-driven reinforced the collaborative rhythm of the role.

Her approach with clients is built on something she carried with her from her previous career: trust. She works closely with stakeholders in transport and logistics, taking time to understand each client’s situation properly rather than applying a standard solution. Over time, this has led to long-standing relationships, often extending beyond individual projects into ongoing partnerships.

One of her most meaningful experiences since joining ERA Group came through a project with a medical devices client. What began as a technical engagement evolved into a broader relationship at senior level, ultimately leading to a further 18-month continuation of work after strong results were achieved. For her, the outcome was as much about the relationship built as it was about the numbers delivered.

She also reflects on how important personal networks have been throughout her journey, noting that former professional contacts often re-emerge as valuable connections for new opportunities, reinforcing the long-term nature of how she builds her career.

She puts it simply: “Networking and personal relationships are key in my business.”

Her story is one of returning home with international experience, then building a new kind of career that blends independence, global collaboration, and long-term client relationships within a specialist consultancy environment.
