Becky Kalinowski
How Becky Turned her Healthcare Background into a High-Performing Business
Becky Kalinowski joined ERA Group after a shift in her life changed the direction of her career. Originally a research scientist, she had progressed through graduate school and into a postdoctoral role, fully immersed in an academic path. But when her first son was born, her priorities and circumstances changed quickly, and she stepped away from science to focus on supporting him during his early months.
When she later began looking to return to work, she found that re-entering her original field wasn’t straightforward. The structure and timing of academic research no longer fit the realities of her life at that stage. What she needed was a role that could bring back intellectual challenge and engagement, but with the flexibility to be present for her family.
What she found was a way to reconnect with meaningful work while rebuilding balance at home. The role gave her the mental stimulation she had missed, but also the flexibility to be fully present in her children’s lives. Over time, that balance became central to how she defined success.
As she puts it, “the greatest achievement was finding that balance between the excitement of work and still being able to be present in my kids’ lives.”
Within ERA Group, Becky also built something new professionally. With a background in healthcare, she became a category specialist in medical supplies, helping to develop a vertical that did not exist when she first joined. Over time, she and her team grew it into a well-established and robust area within the network.
For Becky, success is not defined by a fixed endpoint, but by the ability to shape the journey. She describes how progress can vary year to year, especially early on, but once a niche is established, the potential for growth becomes significant and open-ended.
The flexibility of the model has also had a wider impact on her family life. Having the ability to manage her own schedule has meant being present for school holidays, sick days, and family time, while still contributing meaningfully to her work. It has also provided financial stability that has supported wider family choices and opportunities.
Her story reflects a return to professional life on different terms—rebuilding a career that brings together intellectual challenge, flexibility, and the ability to be fully present in both work and family life.
