‘Quickly purchasing what we need and guaranteed delivery at the right time to the right construction site.’ For MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) items and personal protective equipment (PPE), this was the usual approach for every project undertaken by the construction group. And it proved to work well: there were hardly any mistakes.
Nevertheless, management was curious to know whether they were missing out on any opportunities. ERA's spend analysis had shown that, due to the growth of the company, there were now more than 6,000 items that – partly due to creeping price increases and rising costs – together represented a significant expense.
The investigation revealed that the dynamic way of working was no longer in line with the size of the organisation. As a result, it was becoming increasingly time-consuming and costly to keep the construction operation running.
