The Doylestown Inn/Hattery Stove & Still found significant cost savings of $350,000, over a two-year period and operational efficiencies
The client
The Doylestown Inn and Hattery Stove & Still are nestled in the heart of historic Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The Inn is a 17-room boutique hotel offering guests a cozy and refined experience, while the Hattery Restaurant serves modern American fare in a charming, vintage-industrial setting. Together, the businesses aim to provide elevated hospitality in a small-town setting.
The challenge
By late 2022, the Inn and Restaurant were still recovering from the financial headwinds of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rising costs and stagnant net profit margins had placed increasing pressure on the operation. The owners were looking for ways to improve cash flow and operating margins without compromising the guest experience. With inflation continuing to affect key cost areas, any improvement in supplier pricing or operational efficiency would have a meaningful impact.
The solution
ERA Group connected with the business at a networking event hosted at the Inn. After learning of ERA’s hospitality expertise, ownership agreed to a follow-up meeting, leading to a comprehensive review of general ledger expenses for both the Inn and the Hattery. Four key areas were identified for cost savings, including waste management, food and produce, linen rentals, and merchant processing.
ERA experts collaborated with existing waste, linen, and merchant processing suppliers, while strategically switching food and produce vendors. We worked closely with leadership to share best practices in vendor management and cost optimization, enabling long-term savings.
The result
The collaboration between ERA and the Doylestown Inn/Hattery Stove & Still led to significant cost savings of $350,000, over a two-year period, and operational efficiencies. These savings helped offset inflationary pressures and improved profitability during a critical time in the business’s recovery.
Beyond cost reductions, our experts provided guidance on operational challenges and helped ensure seamless supplier relationships. The additional cash flow supported the client’s strategic expansion, including the launch of a new distillery.

"Working with ERA allowed the Inn and Restaurant to achieve supplier pricing and savings beyond what we would be able to have achieved internally. ERA has helped us offset the inflation and profit margin squeeze we see everyday in this industry."
