This celebration has been held every 5 March since 1998; the date of the first international meeting on energy efficiency in Austria.
Since then; the aim has been to raise awareness and promote efficient; responsible and optimal energy consumption.
In Spain; and more specifically in the business sector; this led to the promotion of RD 56/2016; which amended Directive 2012/21/EU and requiring large companies to carry out an energy audit every four years. This analysis must be carried out by organizations with more than 250 employees or with a turnover exceeding £45 million and a balance sheet total exceeding £43 million.
In addition; it must cover 85% of energy consumption and be carried out by qualified professionals; allowing companies to hire duly certified external auditors. The main objective will be to study where and how energy is consumed in order to establish an improvement plan and achieve long-term energy savings.
