Former Florida Manufacturers Healthcare Director, Amazon best-selling author, ex-fund manager, media commentator, Senate/SEC witness, with UCLA/Notre Dame degrees and global finance experience.
Bringing years of experience advising fiduciaries against vendor waste, fraud, and abuse, from Portland to Papua New Guinea. Prior to becoming an ERA Group Consulting Partner, Michael Case Smith was Director of the Florida Manufacturers Healthcare Consortium, a strategic consulting program. There, he was a contributing Amazon best-selling author on the subject of health insurance abuse. Smith also managed an award-winning global investment fund and developed/sold pension, 401(k), and insurance programs for brokerages including Gallagher, IOA, and MassMutual. Smith began his career in the London and Los Angeles offices of TCW, a global pension advisor. In 1998, he and a group of colleagues joined Nobel Laureate Harry Markowitz to patent and license a series of financial technologies. In 2008, they purchased a New York investment firm. After a fivefold growth in assets, the company was sold, and Smith moved to Florida, where he resides with his wife Karen and four (very) young children. Smith has been a commentator for CNBC, MSNBC, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. He is a vocal opponent of fraud, abuse, and conflicts of interest on Wall Street, having testified before the Department of Labor, SEC, and the United States Senate. He has been a volunteer for Big Brothers, Los Angeles and Chicago prison mentoring programs, and a board member of Papua New Guinea US AID, the Irish Georgian Society, and the Notre Dame Club of Jacksonville. Michael holds degrees from UCLA and Notre Dame, and attended the London School of Economics.
